Fox News recently published an opinion piece by columnist Michael Goodwin in which he quoted a great American author when describing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment effort, and the California Democrat likely won’t appreciate the reference.
Mark Twain warned, “Don’t try and teach a pig to sing. It’s a waste of your time, and it annoys the pig.” Yet, according to Goodwin, “that’s exactly what Pelosi is doing.”
“No matter how she dresses it up,” he insisted, “her impeachment is a pig.”
The lady doth protest too much
At a press conference last week, Pelosi grew irate when asked whether she hates President Trump, responding as if her religious beliefs were being called into question.
“As a Catholic, I resent your using the word hate in a sentence that addresses me, Pelosi snapped.
“I don’t hate anyone. I was raised in a way that is a heart full of love and always pray for the president. And I still pray for the president. And I pray for the president all the time, so don’t mess with me when it comes to words like that,” she declared.
Still, Goodwin isn’t buying her denial.
“Does Pelosi hate Donald Trump? Of course she does. She hates that he’s president, that he’s building an economy that is the envy of the world and that he appeals to voters her party used to own. She’s turned him into such a villain that every success of his is a failure for her,” he wrote.
“Jobs, jobs, jobs”
Goodwin also dismisses Pelosi’s claim that “all roads lead to Putin,” arguing instead that “all roads under Trump lead to jobs, jobs, jobs.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its monthly jobs report on Friday, and it showed that unemployment dropped to 3.5% — the lowest level since 1969. Trump made much of the news during a White House event that same day.
“It was just reported that we added another 266,000 jobs in November. So we’ve had 266,000 jobs, plus we’ve created 7 million since my election. A record of 158 million Americans are now working. That’s the largest number in the history of our country, and we should be breaking the 160 million magic mark very soon,” he boasted.
In other words, Pelosi clearly does have something to hate, and it’s the fact that America is booming under Trump. Impeaching him won’t hide that.
