Ghislaine Maxwell’s lawyer says she’s on suicide watch despite not being suicidal

Ghislaine Maxwell, imprisoned over her role with Jeffrey Epstein, is reportedly on suicide watch in a federal detention center in New York, despite not being suicidal, according to her attorney.

Maxwell is being held while awaiting her sentencing scheduled for Monday, which could be up to more than 50 years.

Maxwell was moved to solitary confinement and placed on suicide watch on Friday without a psychological evaluation and “without justification,” according to her attorney.

“If Ms. Maxwell remains on suicide watch, is prohibited from reviewing legal materials prior to sentencing, becomes sleep-deprived, and is denied sufficient time to meet with and confer with counsel, we will be formally moving on Monday for an adjournment,” the attorney added.

It is unclear if the attorney’s complaint will lead to any change ahead of Maxwell’s sentencing or have any impact on delaying her outcome.

Epstein died in what was ruled a suicide under mysterious conditions while incarcerated, with some perhaps concerned about a similar situation with Maxwell.
