California Gov. Gavin Newsom has rarely shied away from the spotlight. However, the Democrat was missing in action for more than a week leading to speculation.
Newsom disappeared from the public eye after receiving his COVID-19 booster shot, Fox News reported. He had canceled his trip to Glasgow, Scotland, Oct. 29 but turned up at a wedding in San Francisco Saturday.
Until Tuesday, the only official statement was that he was absent from the public to deal with “family obligations.” His wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, took to Twitter with her own caustic statement that she later deleted.
“It’s funny how certain folks can’t handle truth,” she wrote over the weekend. “When someone cancels something, maybe they’re just in the office working; maybe in their free time they’re at home with their family, at their kids’ sports matches, or dining out with their wife. Please stop hating and get a life,” she said.
Photos emerged Tuesday showing a masked Newsom attending the wedding of Tobias Alexander Engel and Ivy Love Getty. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi officiated it and later, revelers partied at the Getty Mansion. “Guests were asked to mask up before Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi entered the room and took her position at the microphone,” Vogue reported about the wedding.
Newsom was in attendance as “long-time family friend” of the bride, and photos of the posh wedding were the exclusive purview of Vogue magazine. To ensure the scoop, guests’ phones were collected prior to the start of the affair.
Before this revelation, speculation had swirled over Newson’s whereabouts. He was last seen in public receiving his booster shot on Oct. 27 with the clip posted to his Twitter.

It was strange to have a politician who is so fond of the limelight suddenly turn so quiet. While his explanation seems plausible, it remains to see what it will take to quell rumors that something happened the day he received his inoculation.
