Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is being investigated for some serious allegations. Although the probe is ongoing, the allegations keep multiplying — but he’s not concerned about being indicted.
Gaetz is now being investigated for obstruction of justice in his sex trafficking probe, Mediate reported. The Department of Justice is examining whether he may have spoken to one of the witnesses in an effort to help his case.
The lawmaker was accused of sex trafficking of a 17-year-old girl, a claim which he has denied all along, according to The Hill. The witness in question is a woman to whom Gaetz was reportedly introduced to by Seminole County, Florida tax collector Joel Greenberg who had pleaded guilty to his own set of charges for sex trafficking of a minor and has now promised to cooperate in Gaetz’s probe as part of the deal.
According to the Department of Justice, Gaetz’s ex-girlfriend was also cooperating with investigators but may have connected the lawmaker to a call with the witness. Investigators have been worried about Gaetz alleged obstruction attempts since last year.
When asked about it by the media, Gaetz shot back at reporters. “I would love to be able to share all the people in my life that I talk to and don’t talk to, but unfortunately the people in your profession have doxxed, harassed, threatened people that have been in my life,” he charged.

When asked whether he was “concerned” about the possibility of indictment, he flatly replied, “No.” Gaetz has maintained his innocence and insinuated he was the victim of a conspiracy even as the DOJ investigation has picked up steam.
“The anonymous allegations have thus far amounted to lies, wrapped in leaks, rooted in an extortion plot by a former DOJ official,” a spokesman for Gaetz claimed. “After two months, there is still not a single on-record accusation of misconduct, and now the ‘story’ is changing yet again.”
It’s unclear whether Gaetz is telling the truth, but it’s important that the legal process gets to the bottom of what happened. If he’s in fact guilty, the GOP needs to cut Gaetz loose immediately without ever looking back.
