Fox News continues winning streak against cable news competitors

Continuing its impressive streak of domination over competitors such as CNN and MSNBC, Fox News tallied yet another impressive set of numbers in February and again in March, arguably attributable in part to the return of former White House press secretary in the Trump administration, Kayleigh McEnany, as TVNewser reports.

Fox News February numbers may come as a little surprising to those who regularly keep tabs on cable news ratings but remain impressive given the network's status as a favorite punching bag of the left.

According to TVNewser, Fox News finished the month in question with roughly 1.44 million viewers in the 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. daypart, making it the most-watched network on basic cable for total day audience.

The network attained that status for the primetime hours as well, with 2.26 million viewers, for the 24th consecutive month atop the ranking of cable news networks as measured by total viewership as well as by the number of adults between the ages of 25 and 54.

Popular Fox News panel program The Five took the title of the most-watched show on the entirety of cable news in February, making that 11 months in a row.

Another staple of the Fox News lineup, Outnumbered, also grabbed a spot in the top ten cable news shows for the month of February, buoyed by the return of McEnany from maternity leave following the birth of a son, as the Daily Mail noted at the time.

Regular viewers of the show were quick to express their happiness at McEnany's return, with one Twitter user declaring, “Yay! You were missed girl! Happy you're back, and welcome to lil Nash.”

Another fan wrote, “Welcome back!!! While we certainly missed you on the couch at noon, we are glad it was because of this beautiful baby boy...Nash, thanks for sharing mummy with us at noon!”

As the network reported, it continued to go from strength to strength in March, nabbing the title of most-watched cable news channel for the 110th consecutive week for the period of March 20-26.

Fox's numbers topped those pulled by CNN and MSNBC combined over a series of key demographics, including when it comes to primetime viewing.

During the period at issue, Fox News drew an average of 2.1 million primetime viewers, while MSNBC attracted 1.2 million, and CNN garnered a paltry 539,000.

Embarrassingly for CNN and its floundering primetime programming lineup, 13 other basic cable outlets had larger audiences in those critical hours than CNN.

Among the channels topping CNN in those time slots were the Food Network, TLC, USA, and the History Channel.

In a particularly spectacular example of failure, while Fox & Friends averaged 1.1 million viewers for the March period of measurement, CNN This Morning – co-hosted by embattled liberal personality Don Lemon – managed to draw just 360,000 pairs of eyes, underscoring the ineffectiveness of network CEO Chris Licht's much-touted attempts to revamp the outlet.
