Four people were murdered as seven people were shot on Tuesday in Chicago, as violent crime continues to grow across Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s city.
The first shooting took place Tuesday afternoon along the 1900 block of West 79th Street. One man was shot in the back, leaving him dead.
A second shooting also included a man shot in the back just over an hour later at a gas station, with the man pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital. It is unknown if the two shootings were related.
A third death occurred less than an hour later when a 21-year-old man was shot along the 4000 block of West Madison Street.
A fourth shooting took place later that evening when a man was discovered with a fatal gunshot in his chest.
Among the other shootings, “An 18-year-old man was injured in a shooting on Jean Baptiste Point DuSable Lake Shore Drive in the Gold Coast Tuesday night, Chicago police said.”

More than 3,600 people have been shot in Chicago in 2021, with 770 homicides in the city.
