Former Sec. of State says Biden’s reversal of Trump border policies is ‘tragic’

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticized the Biden administration’s “tragic” reversal of former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies on Monday during an interview on “Fox & Friends.”

“These people are trying to come through Mexico to get into the United States because President Biden greenlighted this. It’s absolutely tragic,” Pompeo stated.

“You can’t just flip the switch on countries around the world. You have to work alongside of them and build partnerships. That’s how we protect American sovereignty,” he added.

The Brookings Institute has also noted the abrupt and harmful impact of President Joe Biden’s immigration changes. “Biden’s immigration policies are among the most progressive of any president.”

They added, “While everyone expected him to make a dramatic break from the hardline policies, inefficiently spent funds, and inhumane endeavors of his predecessor, Donald Trump, Mr. Biden is not just reversing Mr. Trump’s policies, but the policies designed and/or administered by previous presidents.”

The interview follows a report by The Washington Post that border agents took 172,331 illegal immigrants into custody in March. Approximately 19,000 unaccompanied migrant children are among those in U.S. custody.

The number of immigrants across the nation’s southern border is the most in nearly two decades. The current pace will lead to more than one million illegal immigrants crossing into American by the end of 2021.

In addition to immigration concerns, there are health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Immigrants are not tested unless they show symptoms of the virus.

Pompeo’s remarks highlight the vast difference conservative policies make regarding border security. Biden’s immigration policies have led to numerous additional challenges now impacting people nationwide.
