Former prosecutors torch DA Alvin Bragg's indictment of Donald Trump

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg's indictment of former President Donald Trump has raised more questions than it has answered, given that it's embarrassingly flimsy at best and a political witch hunt at worst.

That was evidenced once again by a number of former prosecutors and other legal experts who have come out against Bragg, from both sides of the political aisle.

According to Fox News, former Manhattan-based assistant district attorney Daniel Bibb was one of the first to state the obvious regarding Bragg's case and why it's probably happening.

"If it wasn’t Donald Trump, no prosecutor in the world would have touched this," said Bibb. "If you and I did what Trump did, we never would have been charged."

Fox News noted:

The indictment uses a novel legal theory and relies heavily on the testimony of the president’s former fixer Michael Cohen, a disbarred attorney and convicted liar.

Trump is accused of falsifying internal business records when he had Cohen arrange a $130,000 hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign to keep her quiet about an alleged sexual encounter. He has denied the affair.

Election law expert and law professor Richard Hasen agrees that the case leaves much to be desired.

"The bottom line is that it’s murky," Hasen said. "And the district attorney did not offer a detailed legal analysis as to how they can do this."

Former Manhattan prosecutor Mark Bederow slammed Bragg and his office for not providing a more clear explanation as to how the case made it this far.

"If you bring an unprecedented case like this against a former president and current presidential candidate, it’s essential for the credibility of the criminal justice system to present a clear and cogent explanation of your theory as opposed to saying 'I don’t have to tell you,'" Bederow told Fox News Digital.

Trump has long argued that he's done nothing wrong, but making matters worse is the fact that he and many others, including his lawyers, do not believe he'll be afforded a fair trial in Manhattan. Bederow agreed.

"This is Manhattan, so the DA has an overwhelming home-court advantage," Bederow told Fox. "If you put Donald Trump on trial for the Kennedy assassination, a Manhattan jury would probably find he's the guy in the grassy knoll."

Many legal experts believe Bragg's case will either organically fall apart long before the trial stage, or that Trump's top-notch legal defense team will use the advantage of delaying the case to pick it apart piece by piece.

Only time will tell, but in the meantime, Trump is reaping the rewards, raising record fundraising amounts in the wake of Bragg's indictment announcement.
