Disturbing news has emerged from Sonoma County, California over the weekend with the arrest of the Democrat former mayor of Sebastopol, Democrat Robert Jacob, on six criminal charges that include suspected sex with a minor, as Fox News reported.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Jacob, 44, was arrested early Saturday morning, a week after local law enforcement were informed of “possible sexual assaults” over the period between December of 2019 and March of this year.
A statement from Sebastopol police revealed that “upon further investigation, the suspect was identified as Robert Jacob,” adding that the probe “is ongoing for a determination as to the number of victims,” but that “as of now, the charges are connected to one victim,” as the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported.
Jacob was taken to the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention facility, where he is being held without bail on suspicion of five felony offenses and one misdemeanor, charges that include sex with a minor, transporting a minor for purposes of sex, soliciting a minor for lewd purposes, and distribution of child pornography, according to the Press Democrat.
San Francisco CBS affiliate KPIX noted that Jacob was the founder of a medical marijuana dispensary known as Peace in Medicine back in 2007, and won election to the Sebastopol City Council in 2012. He was then appointed to the role of mayor by members of the council in 2012.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, he served just one term in that position, a teunure that was marked by a leave of absence granted so that he could assist with a family member’s illness.
The Chronicle reported that a LinkedIn page apparently connected to Jacob currently lists him as principal of Robert Jacob Executive Consulting, an enterprise engaged in advising cannabis-related startups. He is also registered with the state of California as president and secretary of Responsible Patient Care, Inc., another cannabis-connected entity.
Sebastopol Police Chief Kevin Kilgore emphasized to the Chronicle that the investigation into the case is ongoing in nature, and said, “We’ll continue to see if we have more victims, and we would encourage anyone who may have information to please reach out to us,” adding, “it’s important to note that these are all sexual assault crimes against a minor.”
Hopefully local police will soon be able to identify the true scope of Jacob’s alleged involvement in these most heinous of crimes, and justice for all victims will be swiftly served.
