Former CBP commissioner slams Biden administration's border crisis

Earlier this year, the commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Chris Magnus, resigned from his post and sent the Biden administration a clear message on the way out.

On his way out at the time, Magnus submitted the typical resignation letter to the White House.

"Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Senate-confirmed Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection over the past year. It has been a privilege and honor to be part of your administration. I am submitting my resignation effective immediately but wish you and your administration the very best going forward. Thank you again for this tremendous opportunity," Magnus wrote.

That came at the same time reports emerged that suggested Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and other top Biden administration members forced him out of the position, even going as far as to blame him for the immigration crisis.

The White House's response to Magnus' resignation read:

The President has accepted the resignation of Christopher Magnus, the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. President Biden appreciates Commissioner Magnus’ nearly forty years of service and the contributions he made to police reform during his tenure as police chief in three U.S. cities. The President thanks Mr. Magnus for his service at CBP and wishes him well,”

However, since leaving his post, he hasn't been shy about slamming the Biden administration for its handling -- or, more accurately, mishandling -- of the illegal immigration crisis at the southern U.S. border.

He has publicly commented on a number of tweets from major media organizations highlighting various problems America faces at the southern border.

In another example, Magnus tweeted, "What’s described in this article is sickening. Just sickening," in response to a New York Times piece titled, "Alone and Exploited, Migrant Children Work Brutal Jobs Across the U.S.."

Notably, the piece noted the extreme number of migrants that have entered the U.S. on President Joe Biden's watch.

"Largely from Central America, the children are driven by economic desperation that was worsened by the pandemic. This labor force has been slowly growing for almost a decade, but it has exploded since 2021, while the systems meant to protect children have broken down," the article read, shockingly.

It added: "The number of unaccompanied minors entering the United States climbed to a high of 130,000 last year — three times what it was five years earlier — and this summer is expected to bring another wave."

Since leaving his post, Magnus has taken a role in an organization that focuses on police reform.

Given that Magnus is about as liberal as one can be, it's certainly notable that he at least recognizes the failures of his former employer on the immigration issue, which continue to mount by the day.
