Democrats know how bleak their possibilities look in the coming years. However, President Joe Biden’s former aid Symone Sanders is sticking by her ex-boss.
Sanders admonished Democrats who are “whispering in the shadows” about Biden not running for re-election in 2024. The former aide recently left the administration to join MSNBC.
“Look, I think Joe Biden has been running for president since before I was alive. I was born in 1989, okay?” Sanders told “Sway” host Kara Swisher who asked whether Biden should run for re-election. Sanders praised Biden for beating former President Donald Trump and said if Biden “would like to run for reelection, he should.”
“He got a lot of things done,” Sanders added. “Joe Biden beat Trump when a couple of other people could not. So he might as well,” she said.
Swisher pushed back on Sanders’ weak endorsement, reminding the former aide that she no longer works for him. “Does there need to be someone else?” Swisher pointedly asked.
“What I think is Joe Biden is the current President of the United States of America who has gotten a lot of things done,” Sanders said. “And if he wants to run for reelection, I think members of his party that are whispering in the shadows and on background and off the record to journalists, like shame on them,” she added.
“If you don’t think the president should run for re-election, put your name on that quote. But I just don’t think anybody has given a real argument as to why he should not,” Sanders said.
The reason there is so much whispering about Biden is because of his lackluster prospects for re-election. The people that voted him in are just as frustrated and disappointed with him as those who didn’t — and there’s no way to win re-election while losing supporters.
