Despite his repeated insistence that he is neither responsible for, nor guilty in the fatal on-set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins last year, actor Alec Baldwin must now contend with the news of FBI forensic findings that show that the gun that killed his colleague – which he was holding at the time – could not have been fired unless he pulled the trigger, as ABC News reports.

The devastating events at issue took place on the New Mexico set of the film Rust, and Baldwin has stated in the ensuing months that just prior to the shooting, he believed he had been given a so-called "cold gun" that did not contain ammunition and that regardless of whether that was true, that he did not pull the trigger.

However, accidental discharge forensic testing undertaken by the FBI indicates that the gun in question – a .45 Colt single-action revolver – simply could not have fired unless the trigger had indeed been pulled, something Baldwin told ABC's George Stephanopoulus last year that he categorically did not do.

The December, 2021 interview in which Baldwin made that assertion shocked viewers at the time due to the pronounced lack of remorse or accountability demonstrated by the actor over the incident that took Hutchins' life, leaving her young son without a mother.

Declaring that he had no residual guilt over the events of that fateful day, Baldwin added, "I feel that someone is responsible for what happened, and I can't say who that is. But I know it's not me."

Further revealing his tone-deafness surrounding the matter in the wake of the well-respected cinematographer's death, Baldwin also posted a video on social media last year thanking his fans and saying, "I'm just trying to move forward with my life and trying to get through a tough time, a really tough time."

Fox News noted last month that the Santa Fe sheriff's office received the FBI testing results, and homicide and computer crimes detectives in New York were continuing their efforts to secure and review phone records from Baldwin's personal devices.

Once the examination of those materials has been completed, and all forensic and medical examiner's reports have been comprehensively digested, the fruits of the Santa Fe investigation will reportedly be sent to the local district attorney for possible criminal charges, which could implicate Baldwin.

In light of the FBI's findings, which seem to give lie to Baldwin's vehement professions of innocence, it seems increasingly likely that justice could finally be on its way to the notoriously hateful liberal gadfly who still stubbornly refuses to accept responsibility for his role in Hutchins' death.
