Georgia Democratic Senate contender Reverend Raphael Warnock has been caught in an embarrassing situation. Police body camera footage has surfaced of Warnock explaining to police officers how he didn’t run over his ex-wife’s foot in the driveway of their home last March.
Warnock is the senior pastor at the venerable Ebenezer Baptist Church of Atlanta, where Martin Luther King Jr. once served as assistant pastor. The story is difficult for Warnock, as he and Senatore Kelly Loeffler are in a tight race for a US Senate seat.
Last March, police responded to the Warnock home during a domestic dispute which spilled into the driveway. The Warnock children were in the back seat of Warnock’s car when the alleged incident occurred.
Warnock’s ex-wife, Ouleye Ndoye, told the responding officers that Warnock ran over her foot as he was driving away.
Warnock explained his version of what happened and denied any wrongdoing:
“So I’m like, ‘move. I close the car door … and I start to move, slightly, thinking she’s clear, and I barely move. And all of a sudden she’s screaming that I ran over her foot.”
In the video, a tearful Ndoye accused Warnock of putting on “a really good show” and implied that he is a hypocrite and not fit to serve in the US Senate.
“This man is running for United States Senate, and all he cares about right now is his reputation. I work at the mayor’s office, and this is a big problem. I’ve been trying to be very quiet about the way that he is for the sake of my kids and his reputation. I’ve tried to keep the way that he acts under wraps for a long time and today he crossed the line. That is what is going on here and he’s a great actor. He is phenomenal at putting on a really good show.”

The runoff battle between Warnock and GOP incumbent Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) is critically important in Republicans’ quest to keep control of the Senate. As of right now, Robert Cahaly, chief pollster for the Trafalgar Group believes that Loeffler will win the contest.
Reports of Warnock’s bad behavior revealed in recent weeks have likely played a major role in Loeffler’s pulling ahead in the polls.
