Florida passes bill banning schools from grooming young children

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has the opportunity to sign legislation that protects children from the predations of adults seeking to scandalize them. Predictably, liberals are losing their minds that such a law may now exist.

The Florida legislature passed a Tuesday bill banning schools from grooming students with lessons on homosexuality and transgenderism, the Post Millennial reported. To disparage the commonsense legislation, the left has wrongly dubbed it the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

The HB 1557 “Parental Rights in Education Bill” passed in a 22 to 17 vote Tuesday. Despite the narrative surrounding the legislation, there is no prohibition of mentioning the word “gay” but rather prohibits grooming pre-K to third-graders in Florida schools with lessons on sexual perversion.

Moreover, the legislation requires parents to be notified of changes “in the student’s services or monitoring related to the student’s mental, emotional, or physical health or well-being and the school’s ability to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for the student,” according to Fox News. It also prevents schools from “encouraging a student to withhold” such information.

What it does not do is ban casual, spontaneous discussions of such matters, nor does it compel schools to notify parents if their children come out as gay at school. Schools are also allowed to withhold information if they deem disclosing it to parents would put the child in harm’s way.

Still, President Joe Biden’s White House has mischaracterized the bill with press secretary Jen Psaki calling it “hateful legislation.” The administration’s Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, has similarly come out forcefully against the legislation on that false premise.

“The Department of Education has made clear that all schools receiving federal funding must follow federal civil rights law, including Title IX’s protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity,” Cardona said. “We stand with our LGBTQ+ students in Florida and across the country, and urge Florida leaders to make sure all their students are protected and supported.”

The left should be championing this attempt to shield young schoolchildren from perversion and scandal. Unfortunately, their adherence to the radical transgender agenda and powerful homosexual rights lobby won’t permit it.
