First Lady Jill Biden vetting senior White House aides, calling the shots behind the scenes

According to a report by The New York Times, first lady Jill Biden actively participated in the screening of White House staff members, exerted influence over President Joe Biden's decisions, and attempted to shield her husband from protracted news appearances.

After Joe Biden spoke at a conference in January, Jill Biden confronted senior members of the president's staff, according to a witness who was quoted in The New York Times on Monday. Jill Biden demanded to know who was meant to close the session.

Additionally, according to the outlet, the first lady "has been involved in the hiring of [Joe Biden's] press team and other senior staffers" and "vetted former White House press secretary Jen Psaki."

The Daily Caller asked the White House who specific aides Jill Biden was involved in hiring, but they did not respond right away.

Joe Biden has come under fire for appearing to be physically taken away from reporters' queries by the Easter Bunny while being led off stage by the first lady. Jill Biden is reportedly influential in the White House.

In recent weeks leading up to the midterm elections, Jill Biden has been making frequent stops on the campaign trail, visiting areas including Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

The first lady sets herself apart from Melania Trump and Michelle Obama by heavily focusing on the campaign trail in the months leading up to the midterm elections.

"Today we are seeing Jill Biden too capitalizing on her greater popularity in comparison to her husband's, but unlike some of her predecessors, she started this months ago, traveling for example to Arizona, Nevada, and Kentucky in March 2022 in a tour connected with the midterms, to fundraise and to promote some of the more bipartisan bills that have since passed, and highlighting her role as an educator," Katherine Sibley, director of American Studies Program at St. Joseph's University, told the Hill.
