Democrats claim to love America. However, when it comes to keeping with patriotic displays and tradition, they shun them every chance they get.
A federal judge denied South Dakota GOP Gov. Kristi Noem’s request to have Independence Day fireworks at Mt. Rushmore, the Daily Wire reported. Fireworks were permitted there last year, but the Biden administration has denied permission.
“This Court fully understands the State’s position and why this suit was brought,” U.S. District Judge Roberto Lange, an Obama administration nominee, wrote in his opinion, according to The Hill. “But under governing law, the State is unlikely to succeed on the merits of its claims and has not met the requirements” for an injunction.
The federal government denied the state’s original request for permission to hold the display, citing safety and health concerns including COVID-19. “In addition, the park’s many tribal partners expressly oppose fireworks at the Memorial,” National Parks Service Regional Director Herbert Frost said in his denial letter.
The judge’s denial for an injunction doesn’t amount to a confirmation of the NPS decision, but it does mean that it will require further litigation to overturn. Still, Noem has pledged to not let the matter go.
“I am disappointed that the court gave cover to this unlawful action with today’s decision. But rest assured, this fight is not over,” Noem said. “My legal team will appeal this incorrect decision so that we can return the Fireworks Celebration to Mount Rushmore and celebrate our nation’s birthday at America’s Shrine to Democracy for next year and in the future,” the governor added.
Last year, former President Donald Trump gave a rousing speech from Mt. Rushmore to kick off the Independence Day weekend, Fox News reported. He spoke about the greatness of America and the men honored on the monument as other statues were being toppled and torn down. It was an inspirational, patriotic event.
Now the government is back to prohibiting the celebration at a time when America needs encouragement and unity the most. It’s telling that riots and protests have seldom been stopped but such an event to celebrate our history has been outlawed.
