FEC slaps Clinton campaign, DNC with fines over Russia hoax dossier payments

Despite her suspected involvement in innumerable scandals throughout her time in public life, Hillary Clinton has long evaded accountability, though news emerged this week that the Federal Election Commission (FEC) has finally fined her 2016 campaign along with the Democratic National Committee (DNC) over misrepresentations concerning the debunked dossier meant to ensnare former President Donald Trump in the Russia collusion hoax.

As the Washington Examiner reports, the FEC determined that the Clinton campaign and the DNC had operated in violation of its rules governing expenditure descriptions with regard to funds paid to opposition research outfit Fusion GPS – but channeled through the Perkins Coie law firm.

The law firm received a total sum of over $1 million from the DNC and the Clinton campaign, and while campaign disclosures claimed that money was for legal services rendered, it was actually payment for research that formed the basis of the false dossier Trump was forced to spend much of his first term discrediting.

A memo issued by the FEC on the matter indicated that the DNC and the Clinton campaign contended that their description of the purpose of those payments was accurate, given that Perkins Coie actually hired Fusion GPS, though the agency was unconvinced and assessed Clinton’s treasurer a fine of $8,000 and one of $105,000 to the treasurer of the DNC.

According to the New York Post, neither the DNC nor the Clinton campaign admitted violations, but both indicated that they do not intend to “further contest the commission’s finding of probably cause.”

Dan Backer of the Coolidge Reagan Foundation, the entity that initiated the FEC complaint, was pleased with the probe’s outcome, saying, as the Examiner noted, “This may well be the first time that Hillary Clinton – one of the most evidently corrupt politicians in American history – has actually been held legally accountable, and I’m proud to have forced the FEC to do their job for once.”

Backer also suggested that perhaps this will not be the only instance in which Clinton will face the music for her egregious conduct in the run-up to the 2016 election, adding, “Hillary Clinton and her cronies willfully engaged in the greatest political fraud in history – destroying our nation’s faith in the electoral process, and it’s high time they were held accountable. I hope this is only the beginning.”

Also responding publicly to the news of the FEC fines was Trump himself, who, as The Hill reported, just last week filed a civil lawsuit against the DNC, Clinton, Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan, and a host of others allegedly involved in the Russia collusion hoax.

“This corruption is only beginning to be revealed, is un-American, and must never be allowed to happen again,” Trump declared in a Thursday statement, before justifiably demanding to know, “[w]here do I go to get my reputation back?”
