Dr. Anthony Fauci took aim at Republican lawmaker Dr. Rand Paul (R-KY) over what he claimed are death threats against himself, due to Paul’s constant questioning of his decisions.
According to Breitbart News, Fauci lashed out at Paul during a Senate hearing on Tuesday, accusing the survivor of an actual assassination attempt for the death threats he has received, without actually offering any evidence that the senator is responsible.
According to Breitbart, Fauci has inspired the threats and the “crazies out there” against him for his medical opinions due to Paul’s constant grilling of the government health expert’s decision making on the coronavirus pandemic.
“What happens when he gets out and accuses me of things that are completely untrue is that all of a sudden that kindles the crazies out there and I have threats upon my life, harassment of my family and my children with obscene phone calls, because people are lying about me,” Fauci said, before describing an unfortunate incident.
“The police asked him where he was going and he was going to Washington DC to kill Dr. Fauci,” he said. “They found in his car, an AR-15 and multiple magazines of ammunition because he thinks that maybe I’m killing people.”
Paul responded to the recitation of Fauci receiving the news that someone was reportedly intending to hurt him, reminding the doctor that violence is not acceptable, and also about his own brush with death.
Paul was one of multiple Republicans playing softball in 2017 when an armed political protester named James Hodgkinson, a Bernie Sanders supporter, targeted them and shot Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and several others.
The Kentucky Republican, who watched his colleagues get shot, and drag themselves bleeding off a softball field, recollected hearing the shooter shout, “This is for health care!” as he attacked the lawmakers.
“It’s disappointing for you to suggest that people who dare to question you are responsible somehow for violent threats,” Paul said.
