Minneapolis is in ruins, but Mayor Jacob Frey — in an attempt to appease rioters — appeared at one of the city’s protests on Saturday to show solidarity with his angry constituents.
It didn’t exactly go as planned. When one of the speakers at the protest asked him to answer to a “yes or no” question, threatening that his re-election bid depends on his answer: “Will you commit to defunding the Minneapolis police department?”
Frey responded that he will commit to reforming the “structurally racist system,” but would not acquiesce to calls to dismantle the system entirely.
The crowd responded with resounding disgust, booing him out of the gathering and chanting “Go home! Go home, Jacob, go home!” Watch below:
Whoa. @MayorFrey is asked “Will you commit to defunding police, yes or no?” Speaker says his re-election hinges on the answer. Couldn’t hear answer but the crowd erupts in boos, chanting “GO HOME JACOB.”
