Far-left Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) stabbed President Joe Biden in the back over the handling of his immigration policies on Sunday, revealing frustrations from leadership within his own party.
“We do have issues with any number of children. The numbers are coming up,” Lee said on MSNBC’s The Sunday Show. He added,
“But I will say that the Biden administration has met with members of Congress. They have a plan. The plan does not look like it’s working at this time, but you have to get it implemented.”
More than 14,000 immigrant children have been placed in Border Patrol custody. This includes more than 600 children in custody for more than 10 days, despite a 72-hour limit.
Lee shared, “But these are human beings. They’re not coming to endanger our lives, they’re coming basically to save their lives.”
Rep. Lee has been active in other legislation as well. The Texas Democrat joined Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) to introduce The Violence Against Women Act earlier this month.
The act would extend support and grants to groups working to fight domestic violence and sexual assault and prevention. The legislation also expands victim services.
Biden served as the primary author when the first version of the act passed in 1994. He served as a Delaware Senator, where he sponsored the bill as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Lee’s public push against Biden’s immigration policies notes the fractured support among Democrats in response to the current immigration surge. Whether their voices will change the situation remains to be seen.
