Experimenting on human remains obtained through abortion is gruesome. However, what President Joe Biden’s administration did to facilitate that practice compounds the tragedy.
Biden’s National Institutes of Health allegedly ran interference for a University of Pittsburgh program where tissue and organs were harvested from aborted babies for experimentation, the Daily Caller reported. This revelation came from emails obtained through Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act request.
Pitt enlisted the help of the NIH after a previous FOIA request turned up evidence that the academic institution was crafting itself as a “tissue hub.” According to documents first obtained in October 2021, the university sought to “develop a pipeline to the acquisition, quality control and distribution of human … samples obtained throughout development (6-42 weeks gestation).”
The university had been collecting the hearts, gonads, ureters, livers, brains, bladders, hearts, and legs of aborted babies for more than a decade. “We have disbursed over 300 fresh samples collected from 77 cases,” one of the university documents boasted.
“The collections can be significantly ramped up as material could have been accrued from as many as 725 cases last year,” it said. These revelations caused swift blowback from the public.
Dr. Jeremy Berg, Pitt’s associate senior vice chancellor for science strategy and planning in the health sciences at Pitt, appealed to the NIH for help defusing the public relations nightmare. “It seems that this is an organized attempt to delegitimize science based on fetal tissue rather than to identify misbehavior (although, of course, any misbehavior does create opportunities for outrage),” Berg said in an email to Francis Collins, then-director of the National Institutes of Health.
“In light of this, we feel that the scientific community would benefit if more institutions could stand together to take some of the power out of the one at-a-time strategy that appears to be operating.” A meeting was arranged shortly thereafter with the promise of further meetings between NIH and university leaders if necessary.
This practice of tissue harvesting and experimentation on the corpses of these aborted babies is a grave injustice. It seems impossible to believe that the evil of abortion has an even darker underbelly — and the government was at the ready to cover it up.
