Elon Musk undermines Joe Biden's master green energy plan with a simple reply

President Joe Biden's attempt to brag about the federal government's building of charging stations for electric vehicles was foiled by Tesla owner Elon Musk on Saturday.

Biden's bragging attempt came on Saturday morning on Twitter.

The president tweeted, "We're building 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations across the country. The great American road trip will be fully electrified."

This is part of Biden and the Democrats' attempt to move America away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy. Part of their plan is to transition Americans from vehicles that use fossil fuels to vehicles that use electricity.

One of the many problems with the transition to electric vehicles, however, is that the country does not have the infrastructure to support the transition. Electric vehicles don't need gas stations, but they need charging stations, and there currently are not enough charging stations in existence, and many of the ones in existence are electric vehicle maker-specific.

For this reason, the Biden administration has been attempting to create a publicly funded "national electric vehicle charging network." The administration envisages a "national network of 500,000 electric vehicle chargers along America's highways and in communities."

As with most government activities, the plan is moving at a snail's pace. The network received funding - $5 billion over five years - from the so-called Bipartisan Infrastructure Package that some Senate Republicans were kind enough to help the Democrats push through.

In September, the Biden administration approved "Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plans for all 50 States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico." The new release states that over the next couple of years, $1.5 billion will be used to build EV charges covering roughly 75,000 miles of roadways in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

And so, the point of Biden's tweet is to let those who support this plan know that, apparently, it is finally underway.

Suffice it to say that there were many, many Twitter users who were not impressed by Biden's tweet. And, among them was Tesla owner Elon Musk.

"Or you can just buy a Tesla," Musk initially replied.

Musk followed this up with another tweet, writing, "Worth mentioning that Tesla has open-sourced its charge connector and is enabling other EVs to use Tesla Superchargers."

Just in November, CNN reported:

Tesla chargers outnumber so-called CCS chargers, the sort used by Ford, General Motors, Audi, Rivian and others, by a factor of two to one, according to Tesla. Now, Tesla has invited other automakers to build cars with charging ports that can work with Tesla’s charging format and for other charging companies, like EVGo, ChargePoint and Electrify America, to add Tesla-style plugs to their chargers.

So, in other words, Musk, with his tweet, was telling Biden that he and his company Tesla have been there and done what Biden is struggling to do. He told Biden that the government's so-called accomplishment just isn't that impressive.
