Elizabeth Warren refuses to back Kamala Harris for reelection

One Democratic senator is refusing to say whether she will back Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024.

Sen. Liz Warren (D-MA) made the remarks during a recent interview with Boston Public Radio.

The comments

“I really want to defer to what makes Biden comfortable on his team,” Warren told Boston Public Radio (BPR).

“I’ve known Kamala for a long time. I like Kamala. I knew her back when she was an attorney general and I was still teaching and we worked on the housing crisis together, so we go way back. But they need — they have to be a team, and my sense is they are — I don’t mean that by suggesting I think there are any problems. I think they are," she added.

The vice president's approval rating

"Biden sits at 41.6% while Harris is at 38.4%, according to FiveThirtyEight. During the past two years, Harris has dealt with constant negative headlines detailing high turnover in her office," The Daily Wire reported.

"The vice president’s critics have also piled on for what they say is her failure to take her lead role in tackling the migration challenges at the U.S.-Mexico border seriously," it added.

Despite a slight increase to 40.4% in a recent survey, Harris remains well below 50% more than two years into Biden's term.

The problems add to concerns about the president running again in 2024. At 80 years old, Biden is already the oldest serving president.

If he wins again, Biden would be 86 by the end of his second term. Many believe he should not run for a second term, though Democrats have so far failed to provide a strong contender to challenge him.

Warren's concerns with Harris may be more related to her own presidential ambitions. The senator has previously run for president and would be among the contenders for another shot at the White House.

Democrats appear to be lining up to support Biden in another run, but it's uncertain for Warren whether Harris should remain on the ticket to join him.
