Those breathlessly awaiting indictment announcements from U.S. Attorney John Durham’s investigation into the origins of the Russia collusion hoax may not have to wait much longer, according to reports.
The Washington Examiner reported on Wednesday:
Activity within the Justice Department indicates U.S. Attorney John Durham is working to bring the first indictments as part of a criminal investigation into the Russia inquiry, according to investigative journalist John Solomon.
Solomon, who is the editor-in-chief of Just The News, said on Tuesday, “my sources tell me there’s a lot of activity. I’m seeing, personally, activity behind the scenes of the Justice Department”.
Solomon claimed that the DOJ “is trying to bring those first indictments, and I would look for a time around Labor Day to see the first sort of action by the Justice Department.”
Both Attorney General Bill Barr and Durham himself have been quite tight-lipped about the progress of the investigation. Rumors swirled in late 2019 that the results of Durham’s investigation could materialize in the spring of 2020, but those results still haven’t been released.
Solomon appears confident that the Justice Department is gearing up for some major moves in the coming months, according to his inside sources.
Solomon said he is “seeing a lot of activity consistent with building prosecutions and preparing for criminal plea bargains,” though he also said that there is a possibility that nothing will come of this development either. “That doesn’t mean it’ll happen,” Solomon said. “Until someone signs and until they bring them before the grand jury. You never know if it’s going to happen.”
Solomon revealed that he’s heard from both prosecution and defense lawyers that COVID-19 has affected the pace of the investigation, which could explain why Durham made no significant public moves this spring. Solomon concluded:
But everything I’m seeing on the ground, real reporting, suggests that there’s an ongoing criminal investigation intent on bringing indictments and possibly some plea bargains. The first action, the first evidence of it in the public will probably be around Labor Day. That’s an awful long time to wait, but I do see activity that looks like they’re building a criminal case right now.
Barr confirmed in late June that “developments” in Durham’s investigation should be expected this summer as well,” telling Fox News on June 21 that Durham is “pressing ahead as hard as he can” in spite of political pressure and COVID-19.
