Dr. Anthony Fauci offered surprising words of encouragement on Thursday, claiming the Trump administration should receive credit for the investment in the develop;ment and rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines.
“Because of the wise investment in Operation Warp Speed and we give credit to the Trump administration for doing this, particularly Secretary Alex Azar,” Fauci said in a press briefing with President Joe Biden.
“If the vaccine doesn’t work, you’ve lost a lot of money. If the vaccine does work, you’ve saved a lot of time, and that’s exactly what happened,” Fauci added.
The words come as the nation continues to experience a surge in new COVID-19 cases with the spread of the delta variant. In addition, most cases of those hospitalized with COVID-19 are now among the unvaccinated.
However, many are also concerned at the high number of vaccinated people who have tested positive for the coronavirus. The NFL Players Association reported 65 player and staff positive cases in the first week of training camp, despite more than 90 percent of the league being vaccinated.
Of the 65 positive cases, 32 or nearly half, were among vaccinated individuals.

The CDC has now increased its recommendations to often include both vaccinated and unvaccinated people wearing mask indoors. The increase is likely due to new variants, leading some to suggest the need for future booster shots.
