Dr. Anthony Fauci revealed on Tuesday that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded the Wuhan lab in China, from which there is growing evidence that COVID-19 may have escaped and caused the catastrophic pandemic.
The head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) told a House Appropriations subcommittee that the money funded “a modest collaboration with very respectable Chinese scientists who were world experts on coronavirus.”
The amount earmarked for the study was noted as $600,000, according to the New York Post.
Fauci denied the funds provided what he called “gain of function” that could infect humans. ”
“That categorically was not done,” he stated, according to the Post’s report.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was later asked on “Real America’s Voice” if he believed Fauci perjured himself in his recent statements.
Rand answered, “Absolutely, he lied to the American people,” Brietbart News reported.
“Well, it took a SARS virus, which is a coronavirus, that’s 15 times more deadly than COVID, and it added to it S protein, which is something in the surface of it, to make it more easily infectious to epithelial cells for the respiratory tract. That, to me, is gain of function,” Rand added.
Fauci’s recent statements serve as one of many criticisms the coronavirus spokesman has received. Some lawmakers have even called for his resignation or firing, with the Fire Fauci Act introduced in the House.
