Dr. Anthony Fauci facing wrath of Republicans, incoming Republican majority promises justice

Republican Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona warned Dr. Anthony Fauci, outgoing White House chief medical adviser, that he was "wrong" if he thought leaving would "prevent him from being held accountable," the Conservative Brief reported. Fauci appeared at his final press conference Tuesday.

"Fauci is scheduled to give a final briefing today before he leaves government," Biggs said ahead of the news conference. "He thinks resigning will prevent him from being held accountable."

"He’s wrong," Biggs declared. "We’ll be bringing him in ASAP," the lawmaker added.

Other Republicans have similarly put Fauci on notice about the coming legal reckoning. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) promised the GOP would probe the doctor on issues such as what he knows about the origins of COVID-19 and how that fit into Fauci's $10 million net worth following the pandemic.

"If we win in November, if I’m chairman of a committee, if I have subpoena power, we’ll go after every one of [Fauci’s] records," Jordan had promised last month before the GOP officially took control of the House of Representatives. He promised to probe Fauci to find out what he knew about the origins of the novel virus.

"Because we now know without a doubt that Dr. Fauci knew on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 that this thing came from a lab," Jordan asserted. "The top scientists in the country were saying it came from a lab," he added.

"One scientist says we got the notes now from the conference call on February 1st. One scientist says, ‘I don’t see how this can happen in nature, but it would be easy to do in a lab,'" Jordan went on. "And yet just in a matter of days, they changed their position, write the article that appears in Nature of Medicine Magazine, which then gets cited in the now-famous letter The Lancet, which became the gospel for the fact that Fauci can go out and tell people it didn’t come from a lab when in fact they knew it did," Jordan charged.

"We just learned this last week, that the two doctors who were most adamant that this thing came from a lab early on: one is Dr. Kristian Anderson," Jordan went on. "On Jan. 31, 2020, he says this to Dr. Fauci in an email: ‘Virus looks engineered. The virus not consistent with evolutionary theory.’ So, he knew it came from a lab," the lawmaker added.

"They changed their position," Jordan said. "And a few months later, guess what? They get an $8.9 million, both him and Dr. [Robert] Garry – the guy who said it couldn’t happen naturally."

Last month, a letter to Fauci from Reps. James Comer (R-KY), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Steve Scalise (R-LA) formally accused Fauci of funding the kind of research that may have created the virus. Fauci had awarded EcoHealth Alliance a grant to conduct the study on bat coronaviruses that could have led to the creation of COVID-19.

"You awarded this new grant to EcoHealth despite NIAID’s parent agency, the National Institutes of Health, finding that EcoHealth had failed to comply with the terms of previous coronavirus grants and even canceling a sub-award to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for potentially dangerous research that may have contributed to the COVID-19 pandemic," they wrote. Fauci is also resigning from his post as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Fauci has yet to face the consequences for his role in the pandemic and its response. That's about to change with the House Republicans at the helm.
