Former President Donald Trump believes it may not be "possible" for President Joe Biden to run for re-election in 2024, the Daily Wire reported. Trump made this prediction in an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson that touched on a wide array of subjects.
Trump has previously announced his intention to run for the presidency, recreating the 2020 matchup if Biden runs for reelection. However, Trump is not confident that the president, who will be nearly 82 years old by then, will be up for the task.
"Look, I watch him just like you do. And I think it’s almost inappropriate for me to say it – I don’t see how it’s possible," Trump told Carlson.
"But there’s something wrong. I saw his answer on television about whether or not he was going to run, to a very nice guy named Al Roker," Trump said.
"[Biden gave] a long answer about the eggs and this and that -- look, I don’t think he can," Trump added. Roker, the "Today" weatherman, had asked Biden whether he would run again during the White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn on Monday.
At first, Biden said he would be there for "at least three or four more Easter egg rolls, maybe five." When pressed further, Biden told Roker he was "planning on running, Al, but we're not prepared to announce it yet," Biden told him.
The appearance with Carlson was the first time Trump sat down for an interview since he was indicted in a Manhattan on charges of falsification of business records, Fox News reported. Carlson asked Trump about his experience at his arraignment.
"They were incredible," Trump said of the staff and officers. "When I went to the courthouse, which is also a prison in a sense, they signed me in and I’ll tell you, people were crying – people that … professionally work there that have no problems putting in murderers, and they see everybody," he added.
"It’s tough, tough place, and they were crying," Trump reiterated. "They were actually crying. They said, 'I'm sorry.'"
Many believe Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is going after Trump because he's motivated politically. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has subpoenaed testimony and documents related to an investigation already conducted by former prosecutor Mark Pomerantz, according to a separate Fox News report.
No charges were pressed until Bragg took over the position. Now Bragg is going after the House Judiciary Committee chairman for demanding answers over the disparity in how Trump was treated.
"Chairman Jordan's subpoena is an unconstitutional attempt to undermine an ongoing New York felony criminal prosecution and investigation," Bragg claimed. "As our complaint details, this is an unprecedented, illegitimate interference by Congress that lacks any legal merit and defies basic principles of federalism," he added.
"The Manhattan D.A.'s Office focuses on the law and the evidence, not political gamesmanship or threats," Bragg said to further grandstand. "We look forward to presenting our case in court to enjoin enforcement of the subpoena."
Trump's enemies are closing in on him likely because they understand what Trump so plainly stated -- Biden may not make it to 2024. However, Trump is also a competent politician who is ready for the fight regardless of who he must face.
