Donald Trump demands media members who leaked Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision out source as well as face punishment

Former President Donald Trump suggested authorities pressure media members who leaked the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade to find the source, Breitbart reported. Trump wants the "slime" reporter and those who published it punished.

"The Supreme Court has just announced it is not able to find out, even with the help of our 'crack' FBI, who the leaker was on the R v Wade scandal," Trump posted to his Truth Social account Thursday. "They’ll never find out, & it’s important that they do," he added.

"So, go to the reporter & ask him/her who it was. If not given the answer, put whoever in jail until the answer is given," Trump suggested.

"You might add the publisher and editor to the list. Stop playing games, this leaking cannot be allowed to happen," the former president added.

"It won’t take long before the name of this slime is revealed!" he concluded. Trump posted again later, reiterating the same strong message.

"Arrest the reporter, publisher, editor - you’ll get your answer fast. Stop playing games and wasting time!"

These suggestions came on the heels of news that the high court's investigation to find out who leaked the draft opinion of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization came up empty, Fox News reported. The situation first unfolded on May 2, 2022, when Politico published the bombshell before it had been made official.

The decision alone made waves as it reversed the precedent from the court case that had legalized abortion nationwide nearly 50 years ago. However, having someone from inside the court hand off the information before its time had not happened before at the high court, making this a serious infraction.

Immediately after the unprecedented leak, Chief Justice John Roberts ordered the Marshal of the Court to investigate how it happened. The results were released in a report Thursday that revealed the investigation provided no new information on the identity of the leaker.

"The investigation has determined that it is unlikely that the Court's information technology (IT) systems were improperly accessed by a person outside the Court," the report said. "After examining the Court's computer devices, networks, printers, and available call and text logs, investigators have found no forensic evidence who disclosed the draft opinion."

It wasn't just that the news got out before its time, but what adversaries did with that information. What followed the leak was months of protests, including some at the homes of Supreme Court justices, and violence.

On June 8, 2022, a man was arrested near the Maryland home of Justice Brett Kavanaugh with a knife, a gun, and some zip ties, the Associated Press reported. He was reportedly angry about the Dobbs decision as well as Kavanaugh's reluctance to support gun control.

Other incidents spurred on by the leak included vandalism and bombing of a pro-life pregnancy center, National Review reported. The radical and sometimes violent pro-abortion group Jane’s Revenge was purportedly behind the incident.

Trump is correct that something needs to be done to plug the leak at the Supreme Court. However, going after journalists to reveal their sources is historically a bad way to go about it.
