Donald Trump credits God after SCOTUS overturns Roe v Wade

In the wake of the Supreme Court decision that resulted in the overturning of Roe v. Wade, supporters — and critics — of former President Donald Trump are crediting him with making such a bombshell ruling happen, given that he had the unprecedented opportunity to appoint three conservative justices to the high court’s bench.

Trump was immediately questioned after the ruling to get his thoughts on Friday’s decision, which sparked equal amounts of cheer and rage. According to Fox News, the 45th president gave credit where credit is due.

“God made the decision,” Trump said, when asked if he felt responsible for setting up the chain of events that would ultimately lead to SCOTUS overturning Roe, a decision that has stood for nearly 50 years.

“This brings everything back to the states where it has always belonged,” Trump added. “This is following the Constitution, and giving rights back when they should have been given long ago.”

He spoke on the issue once again at a rally held over the weekend in Illinois.

Trump’s three SCOTUS appointees, Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, made up the backbone of the 5–4 decision that would overturn Roe, which was a result once thought to be virtually impossible, though scholars from both sides argue that constitutionally, returning the issue to the states is the correct move.

Pro-abortion groups, including one nasty group in particular called “Jane’s Revenge,” had promised widespread violence, and even a “night of rage” to protest the ruling. Luckily, so far, the protests have been rather mild and uneventful.

The decision came just a day after the high court struck down a requirement in New York that forced law-abiding residents to justify their reason for applying for a concealed carry permit, CBS News reported.
