President Joe Biden is grappling with a major border crisis that continues to bubble into an unmitigated disaster. Now someone in his administration said the quiet part out loud.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitted the Department of Homeland Security was caught by surprise by “the rapidity of the increase” of illegal immigrants, Breitbart reported. The administration seldom acknowledges that there is a problem at all.
Thousands of illegal immigrants have flooded the border in Del Rio Texas, overwhelming the system and creating squalid conditions, Fox News reported. President Joe Biden promised to get the problem “under control” but has yet to deliver.
Officials have managed to expel some of the migrants under Title 42 which is allowed for the sake of public health. Still, the people keep coming while conditions continue to deteriorate.
Of course, this is only the most recent in a string of such incidents that have stretched the immigration system to its breaking point and wreaked havoc on border towns. The official narrative is that the latest group are Haitians fleeing their country, according to the New York Times.
A powerful earthquake rocked the island in August and their president was assassinated in July. Both crises have dovetailed to create a mass exodus, though nobody can explain how this horde of refugees managed to trek across the sea and through central America.
At least Myorkas actually admitted there was a problem on Monday’s “NBC Nightly News” when he was asked about whether the administration was prepared for the influx. “I don’t think we expected the rapidity of the increase that occurred,” Mayorkas told correspondent Morgan Chesky.
“We are realistic about the human tragedy of this,” Mayorkas said about the deportations. “But we have a responsibility, not only to the well-being of the migrants themselves but the well-being of the local communities and the American public.”
This ongoing crisis continues to get worse for the people who live on the border and for those seeking to enter the U.S. Though illegal immigrants could simply turn back and head home, they’ve been encouraged by the administration’s inaction — and that leaves the responsibility squarely on the Biden administration.
