Department of Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will be impeached if Republicans win midterm elections

Republicans are poised to make headway in the midterm elections. If so, one official may face impeachment for his on-the-job failures.

Department of Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas could face impeachment for his failures to control illegal immigration and other transgressions, the Daily Caller reported. Republicans have promised action in the event of a GOP takeover in the House of Representatives.

Experts on border issues and legal matters believe there's a strong case to impeach Mayorkas. In July, congressional Republicans released a plan to pass the Border Security for America Act that would continue work on the wall between Mexico and the U.S.

The legislation would also increase funding for additional U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents. This directly contradicts the current sentiment under Mayorkas, who showed his disdain for the agency by siding against them in Sept. 2021

Photographs purportedly showing agents whipping illegal immigrants were widely disseminated on social media. Despite his inside knowledge that the agents had no whips and that even the photographer understood the instruments to be reins, Mayorkas ran with the narrative.

"Our nation saw horrifying images that do not reflect who we are," Mayorkas said in condemnation. "We know that those images painfully conjured up the worst elements of our nation's ongoing battle against systemic racism," he added.

The Heritage Foundation had acquired the emails showing Mayorkas had full knowledge of the truth. "He's betrayed the public trust," the think tank's director of Border Security and Immigration Center and former DHS Acting Deputy Chief of Staff Lora Ries said.

"And he's betrayed his own employees by lying about them to all of America. He is unfit to serve," Ries insisted. She also hammered Mayorkas for his failure to secure the border.

"He's refused to carry out, intentionally, his sworn duties to enforce federal immigration law, combined with his actions directing federal employees to actually violate immigration law," Ries said. "And the results is endangering the health and the safety and the security of citizens of the United States."

Article III Project founder and president Mike Davis went further by suggesting this is enough to impeach Mayorkas. "When you take an oath to uphold the Constitution and faithfully execute our laws, and you refuse to do it, that's impeachable. You're violating your oath," he said.

"The law is very clear that illegal economic migrants cannot flood into this country, and DHS Secretary Mayorkas has willfully, intentionally ignored this," Davis later went on. "That's impeachable."

The midterm elections are beginning to skew toward the Republicans. If this is the case, there will be a day of reckoning for the likes of Mayorkas -- and President Joe Biden should take heed.
