Democrats in danger of losing their seats in the upcoming midterm elections have distanced themselves from President Joe Biden following the negative results of his Afghanistan withdrawal, according to Breitbart News.
The publication reported that those close to Biden may not be able to reap the benefits of the “coattail effect” during the 2022 election, if Biden’s political value keeps plummeting.
Biden has not made many friends in recent weeks, particularly among those who consider the military and Middle East concerns to be important to the future of the nation and it’s security against terrorism.
Breitbart reported that the president’s poll numbers are taking a sharp hit and Congressional Democrats who consider their hold on their positions to be tenuous are looking for ways to set themselves apart from the sinking ship that is the Biden Administration.
According to Axios, “Democrats in swing states and districts are publicly distancing themselves” from President Biden and are now “huddling with campaign consultants over how to handle the setback in Afghanistan.”
On such lawmaker is Rep. Susan Wild (D-PA) who said in a recent statement that while she supported withdrawing from Afghanistan, she was quick to caveat it with the option that the actual evacuation was “egregiously mishandled” and called for “answers and accountability.”
“It is clear to me that it was long past time to end the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, and that we could not continue to put American service members in danger for an unwinnable war. At the same time, it appears that the evacuation process has been egregiously mishandled,” Wild said.
“In order to move forward, our country will need to receive answers and accountability regarding the cascading failures that led us to this catastrophic moment, and I look forward to using my platform on the House Foreign Affairs Committee to secure answers from the Biden Administration about what went wrong. Our troops deserve nothing less than a complete and unvarnished account of the truth.”
