U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) has just completely changed his position on Title 42, the Washington Examiner reports. 

Brown had previously been against the use of Title 42, which is a Trump-era policy that was used to rapidly expel illegal immigrants from the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In June 2020, Brown - along with many other Democratic U.S. Senators - signed a letter asking then-President Donald Trump to "reverse" the Title 42 policy.

The letter, in part, read:

We write to urge you to reverse the litany of policies you have implemented that have effectively dismantled our nation's asylum system. Forty years ago, Congress enshrined in our laws the moral commitment to protect people who risk their lives to seek refuge from persecution . . . Your administration has done grevious harm to this noble tradition.

Now, apparently, Brown feels differently.

The Examiner reports that Brown is now co-sponsoring SB 1473. The bill will "authorize the immediate expulsion of inadmissible aliens attempting to enter the United States by fraud or without a necessary entry document, and for other purposes."

In other words, the bill will do what Title 42 has done up until Thursday when Title 42 ended as the result of the Biden administration's refusal to extend the policy.

Interestingly, Brown is not the only Democratic senator to co-sponsor SB 1473. Others include U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Jon Tester (D-MT). The bill's sponsor is U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), a former Democrat.

The bill also has some Republican co-sponsors, including U.S. Sens. Thomas Tillis (R-NC), John Cornyn (R-TX), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV).

What is not clear is why it is that Brown has flip-flopped on this issue. Brown, at the time of this writing, has not released a statement on the matter.

This all comes, as stated, with Title 42 officially coming to an end on Thursday.

Illegal immigration numbers surged in anticipation of the ending of the policy with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol witnessing three separate days of over 10,000 illegal immigrant encounters.

President Joe Biden is attempting to address the southern border crisis with his own policies, including the use of Title 8, the use of a new asylum rule, and the use of increased personnel at the U.S.-Mexico border. Whether or not this strategy will prove to be effective remains to be seen.

In the meantime, Biden probably isn't too happy about Brown teaming up with the likes of Manchin to reimplement the southern border policy that Biden just ended. That's not following the script.
