Democrat Congresswoman Karen Bass claims her home was broken into

According to Fox News, Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) has said that her home was broken into on Friday night.

The claim was made in a statement that Bass's campaign released on Saturday.

"Last night, I came home and discovered that my house had been broken into and burglarized," Bass wrote. "[The Los Angeles Police Department] was called, and I appreciate their assistance."

"At this time, it appears that only two firearms, despite being safely and securely stored, were stolen," Bass added. "Cash, electronics, and other valuables were not."

"It's unnerving and, unfortunately, it's something that far too many Angelenos have faced," the congresswoman concluded.

The LAPD has yet to confirm this story. But, it certainly would not be out of the ordinary for Los Angeles. The simple fact is that crime, in the area, has been through the roof.

The Hill reports:

There have been 9,836 burglaries reported to the Los Angeles Police Department so far this year. This is up 15 percent from the same time last year, which saw 8,549 burglaries in the same time period.

Bass is currently running to be the next mayor of Los Angeles. It is looking as though the issue of rising crime is going to play a large role in the race. Critics argue that Democrat leadership is a large part of the blame for the rise in crime.

Bass is claiming that, as mayor, she will be "smart on crime," which will include hiring more police officers and, overall, "making a serious investment in crime prevention."
