Dem lawyer says legal battles will seek to remove GOP Reps

Democratic attorney Marc Elias has predicted that Democrats will seek to stop some Republicans from serving through legal battles in the 2022 midterms.

“My prediction for 2022: Before the midterm election, we will have a serious discussion about whether individual Republican House Members are disqualified by Section 3 of the 14th Amendment from serving in Congress. We may even see litigation,” Elias tweeted.

The idea seems to indicate some Democrats may seek to keep certain GOP members from serving due to supporting the Jan. 6 insurrection.

“I am making clear that members of Congress who engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States are not eligible to serve in Congress,” Elias said.

The news comes as Republicans continue to gain ground in polls concerning the House for the 2022 midterms.

In addition, 23 House Democrats have announced retirement or a run for another office, making the party’s hope to keep power a difficult struggle.
