D.C. shooting ‘person of interest’ found dead

The Washington Examiner reports that the man identified by police as a person of interest in the recent Washington, D.C. shooting that left four people injured has been found dead.

Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department Police Chief Robert Contee said that his department was unable to confirm the identity of the deceased individual. But, nonetheless, his department believes that the deceased individual and the person of interest in the shooting are one and the same.

“We believe that the suspect took his own life as MPD members were entering or breaching the apartment where the suspect was located,” Contee told reporters.

The person of interest in the shooting has been identified by the department as Raymond Spencer, a 23-year-old resident of Virginia. He was named a person of interest by Contee’s department after social media posts of his were discovered in which he seemingly claimed responsibility for the shooting.

“Dear God please forgive me,” Spencer wrote in one. “Waiting for police to catch up with me,” he wrote in another.

The shooting took place on Friday at the 2900 block of Van Ness Street in northwest Washington D.C. Police responded in full force.

It was discovered that four people were injured in the shooting: two adult males, one adult female, and one child. The victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. The gunshot wounds are reported to have been minor, and each individual is now said to be in stable condition.

The big question, as always, is motive. And, the answer remains unclear. Currently, police believe that the shooting was random and that the victims were unknown to the shooter.

The investigation, however, remains ongoing.
