President Joe Biden’s poorly executed exodus from Afghanistan has created many problems. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz thinks one particular issue could be a ticking timebomb.
Cruz has warned that refugees from Afghanistan who are not properly vetted could lead to another terrorist attack on American soil and abroad, Fox News reported. The GOP lawmaker also warned about the message the debacle was sending to America’s enemies.
“I’m very concerned that the Biden administration is bringing tens of thousands of refugees into the United States without thoroughly vetting them,” Cruz said Friday at a news conference. He warned that bringing so many people into the U.S. without the proper processing “is an invitation to terrorist attacks here in the United States.”
One of the locations receiving refugees is the Fort Bliss army post headquartered in El Paso Texas, but Cruz thinks the setup there is inadequate. “If 10,000 refugees arrive [to Fort Bliss], every one of those 10,000 can choose to leave tomorrow,” he warned.
“There’s no fence. There’s no gate,” Cruz pointed out. He added that top brass at Fort Bliss told him one of the refugees left unceremoniously in an Uber.
Though Cruz does not object to the U.S. taking in the refugees, he warned that “an emergency rapid process that invites mistakes” could leave America vulnerable. The lawmaker pointed out that “it only takes a handful of suicide bombers to be included with the mass of refugees for us to face horrific terrorist attacks here at home.”
Cruz was not only concerned with the refugee situation, but also by the way the rest of the world would perceive Biden’s botched evacuation effort as a sign of its weakness. Despite the president’s promises not to leave anyone behind, at least 100 Americans remain stranded after the remaining U.S. forces left Monday, USA Today reported.
“The enemies of America are looking at the disaster in Afghanistan,” Cruz said. “I think as [President] Xi watches the Biden administration complete collapse, the Chinese government is making the assessment that this administration will not stand forcefully against a military assault on Taiwan, all of this has made the world a much more dangerous place,” he warned.
The president has singlehandedly botched the war effort in Afghanistan, abandoned Americans, and made the U.S. look weak to our enemies. If Cruz is right about a possible terrorist attack on the horizon because of it, there will be blood on Biden’s hands.
