Covenant Christian School had no armed resource police on campus when shooting occurred

Fox News reporter John Roberts noted during live coverage of the shooting at Covenant School in the Nashville area that there were no armed resource officers on campus when the attack occurred on Monday, according to Breitbart News.

Don Aaron, a spokeswoman for the Nashville Police Department, stated that the assailant was a young lady who seemed to be "in her teens" and was equipped with many guns. The information was later updated to indicate the shooter was transitioning from female to male.

Roberts said, “There was no school resource officer present at the school. It’s a private school, it doesn’t employ anybody from the Nashville police department to look after the school.”

Breitbart News reported that no armed resource officers were present at Denver's East High School on Wednesday when a 17-year-old student shot two staff members.

Superintendent of Denver Public Schools Alex Marrero replied by announcing the placement of two armed resource officers on campus.

Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake said Tuesday that the 28-year-old who killed three students and three adults at a private Christian school in Nashville was under treatment for an emotional illness and had lawfully purchased seven weapons hidden at home, according to CNN.

Audrey Hale's parents told authorities they assumed she had only bought and sold one firearm. The chief stated Hale's parents didn't want firearms.

Drake said Hale went home with a red bag on Monday morning. The parents questioned what was inside but were dismissed.

Monday's assault employed three weapons. Police spokesman Don Aaron said the seven guns were bought between October 20, 2020, and June 6, 2022.

Authorities reported no motive Tuesday. Aaron claimed the shooter targeted the school and church but not the six victims. He stated that Hale's papers suggested targeting a mall near the school.

Hale, a former Covenant School student, entered the elementary school and killed six people before being shot by authorities.

According to CNN, it was the 19th school shooting in 2023 with at least one victim and the bloodiest since the May attack in Uvalde, Texas, which killed 21. 42 K-12 school shootings followed Uvalde.

Three 9-year-old kids, Evelyn Dieckhaus, William Kinney, and Hallie Scruggs, daughter of senior church pastor Chad Scruggs, died. Police stated 61-year-old substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, 60-year-old school principal Katherine Koonce, and 61-year-old custodian Michael Hill were also slain.

“All of Tennessee was hurt yesterday,” Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said in a video statement Tuesday. The governor claimed his wife Maria Lee was closest friends with one of the victims, Peak, who was set to come over for supper Monday night.

We all agree that every life is valuable. We'll stop it. "There is a strong desire in all of us, whether we agree on the specific steps or not, that we must endeavor to discover solutions to defend against evil," Lee said in the five-minute video.

On Tuesday, police published bodycam footage of the attacker's deadly shot, Hale's childhood friend disclosed the shooter's unsettling comments, and victims' loved ones reflected on their losses.
