Comedian Gilbert Gottfried dies at 67

Comedian Gilbert Gottfried died on Tuesday following a long illness at the age of 67, according to a statement from his family posted to social media.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness,” the statement said.

“In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor,” the statement read.

“Gottfried was born in the borough of Brooklyn in New York City on Feb. 28, 1955, and began his career as a stand-up comedian at 15 years old.

“He starred on Saturday Night Live during a 12-episode run in 1980 before receiving one of his breakout roles with SNL partner Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop II,” according to the Washington Examiner.

The tragic news left much sadness for many of those impacted by his comedy and acting. His talent, however, will continue to leave a legacy that continues to bring happiness to many for years to come.
