Comedian David A. Arnold passes away suddenly at 54-years-old

It seems that stories of otherwise healthy young people dying suddenly are increasingly in the news. The passing of comedian David A. Arnold adds to the growing list.

Arnold, the standup comedian and create of Nickelodeon's "That Girl Lay Lay," died unexpectedly on Wednesday, NBC News reported. The 54-year-old is said to have died of "natural causes," though no official cause of death has been released.

"It is with great sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of our husband, father, brother and friend, David A. Arnold," his family said in a statement following his death. "David passed away peacefully today in his home, and doctors have ruled the cause of death due to natural causes," the statement said.

"Please keep our family in prayer and respect our privacy at this time as we are all shocked and devastated by this loss." Arnold is survived by his wife, Julie, and their two daughters, Anna Grace and Ashlyn Elizabeth.

Close friend and fellow comedian Chris Spencer said that comedy "mourns the loss of one of the greatest to ever do it." Spencer also said that Arnold was "admired by his peers, respected by other veterans, and revered by the burgeoning comedians that he mentored."

"He will be deeply missed, especially by his comedy fraternity," Spencer said. With two Netflix comedy specials under his belt and a slew of writing credits, Arnold was in the prime of his career.

He was currently on his "Pace Ya Self" standup tour that was scheduled later this month in New Brunswick, N.J., and dates in October for Atlanta and Nashville. Previously, Arnold had written for shows like BET's "The Real Husbands of Hollywood," Netflix's "Fuller House," and TBS comedies from Tyler Perry like "Meet the Browns" and "Tyler Perry's House of Payne."

It's unusual that a middle-aged man passes away suddenly. However, it seems it's becoming more common by the day.
