CNN’s Don Lemon tipped off Jussie Smollett about police doubting his story, Lemon could be on the way out

The case of actor Jussie Smollett and his alleged race attack hoax has had some interesting twists and turns. The most recent may ensnare yet another CNN personality.

Host Don Lemon found out the Chicago police were skeptical of Smollett’s account as the victim of a racially-charged attack and allegedly tipped the actor off about their investigation, Breitbart reported. Smollett is accused of orchestrating the entire ruse himself.

While on the witness stand Monday, Smollett said he first knew the police didn’t believe his account after receiving a text message from Lemon that they were onto him. That revelation was then stricken from the court record, but the implication under oath may impact Lemon’s reputation.

After the public got wind of the Chicago police’s suspicions, Lemon quickly turned on the “Empire” actor. “He even lied to a lot of people… including me. And that’s not cool,” Lemon said.

“He squandered the goodwill of very high-profile people who one day may be running this country like Kamala Harris and Cory Booker and people like President Trump,” Lemon continued. Meanwhile, the host allegedly had known authorities weren’t buying the story.

Smollett was allegedly attacked at 2 a.m. on the frigid Chicago streets back in 2019, according to Fox News. He claimed two supporters of former President Donald Trump perpetrated the racially-charged, homophobic incident. However, evidence later pointed to the fact that he allegedly hired two men, brothers Abimbola and Olabingo Osundairo, to fake the attack.

Now, Smollett is facing up to three years in prison for felony charges connected to making a false report to police and felony disorderly conduct. The actor has been disgraced, but Lemon and the network may suffer just as much from the fallout.

CNN is already reeling after host Chris Cuomo was fired for helping his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, gather intel on the women who had accused him of sexual misconduct. Now this revelation about Lemon is another blow to the network’s credibility — whatever it had left of it anyway.
