There’s no question CNN was biased against former President Donald Trump and gained viewers from attacking him. Now that he’s out of office, nobody’s watching.
CNN’s ratings are down 50% across different categories since President Joe Biden took office on Jan. 20, the Daily Wire reported. The network has been “hemorrhaging viewers” and has lost over a million since then.
Viewership for the network peaked in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election and was drawing 2.2 million on average in the early part of 2021, Fox News reported. However, ratings took a nosedive, cutting its audience by 54% to just a million viewers.
Worse yet for the network is who has been walking away. The adults age 25-54 key demographic viewership fell off by 60%, shrinking from 617,000 in late December through Inauguration Day to only 244,000 after Biden took office.
Even CNN’s primetime talent lineup is floundering. Among their marquee players Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo, and Anderson Cooper, the network had drawn 3.1 million viewers on average for its 8-11 p.m. time slot during the Dec. 28-Jan. 20 period. Now CNN only has about 1.4 million viewers for those programs, amounting to a 55% drop. The lineup had its worse drop in that coveted 25-54 demographic, losing 63 percent of its viewers.
Lemon tried to dismiss their demise in a podcast interview. “No. I’m not worried about it … Trump was a horrible person,” he reportedly told “Sway” host Kara Swisher. “And he was terrible for the country. And it is better for all — for the world that he is no longer the President of the United States,” Lemon said.
“So if that means that cable news ratings go down? Aww. So I’m not really that concerned about it,” Lemon insisted. “I would prefer that my ratings go down and Trump not be in office than my ratings be sky-high and him be there. That’s the honest truth.”
The network hinged its success on the wall-to-wall Trump-bashing and now has nothing to fall back on. They can’t cover the real news about Biden, and even their liberal viewers can’t be sustained on a diet of puff pieces when they are used to feasting on their pound of flesh from Republicans. Maybe that’s why Fox News is still “on pace to be the most-watched cable news network for the second month in a row among both total day and primetime viewers.”
