One CNN contributor is arguing against both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump running for the White House in 2024 due to their age.
Gergen called the two leaders to “step back” from the election during a Monday “CNN Newsroom” segment.
Of course Biden is too old to be president https://t.co/Gz7ln3Iwzq “The possibility that the president is too old to be president *right now* is just too troubling for some Democrats to contemplate. But of course, Biden is too old to be president, right at this very moment.”

“My view is that both Donald Trump and Joe Biden should step back from these elections because of their age,” Gergen stated.
“I think they’re both — you know, say what you might about either Biden or Trump as political leaders, but the fact is that to take office, and the most complex office in the world and most powerful office in the world, one where, you know, the president makes one mistake in judgment, and there can be calamitous results, I think that someone who is in their 80s is not an appropriate person to be making those kind of decisions over a four-year period,” he added.
Democrats and the media are suddenly acknowledging that President Biden is too old for his job. Such is the price of nominating him with so little scrutiny about his capacity for the Presidency. https://t.co/4gFbqR8kJG

The new age argument is quickly spreading to numerous mainstream outlets that show concern over Biden being president in his 80s.
The view also means Democrats would need another candidate in 2024, something that would change the political landscape for the struggling party.
