Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) revealed Tuesday that President Joe Biden may have used political pressure to shut down an investigation on his family that involved at least 40 confidential human sources, Breitbart reported. Grassley made these claims in a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland.
According to Grassley, these witnesses had "criminal information" on the president, his brother James, and his son Hunter. They came from various FBI field offices, including the FBI Baltimore Field Office, FBI HQ holdings, and the FBI Seattle Field Office.
However, the investigation was closed with the excuse that it was "subject to foreign disinformation." Grassley isn't buying it.
The Iowa Republican asserted that mounting evidence suggests there was an effort "among certain Justice Department and FBI officials to improperly delay and stop full and complete investigative activity into the Biden family," Grassley wrote, according to the New York Post. "An essential question that must be answered is this: did the FBI investigate the information or shut it down?"
"Indeed, if those sources were improperly shut down, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for the FBI," Grassley went on. "Based on the information provided to my office over a period of years by multiple credible whistleblowers, there appears to be an effort within the Justice Department and FBI to shut down investigative activity relating to the Biden family," he charged.
"Such decisions point to significant political bias infecting the decision-making of not only the Attorney General and FBI Director but also line agents and prosecutors," Grassley said in his letter. The senator pointed out that in 2020, the FBI was informed of Hunter Biden's "criminal financial and related activity."
However, the agency "ultimately shut it down based on false assertions that it was subject to foreign disinformation." An FBI whistleblower claimed that Brian Auten, an FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst, was responsible for the decision to create a report to label the evidence disinformation.
This caused the "FBI HQ team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation and caused investigative activity to cease," Grassley said. "The precise basis for how the FBI HQ team selected the specific information for inclusion in Auten’s assessment is unknown, but the focus of the FBI HQ team’s attention involved derogatory information about Hunter Biden and Joe Biden," the senator wrote.
A whistleblower also said a separate investigation on Hunter Biden's business associate Tony Bobulinksi was closed by FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Tim Thibault in 2020. This was due to "an FBI HQ and FBI Baltimore element" leaning on the agent to do so rather than evidence.
Grassley also pointed out that while former President Donald Trump was being impeached over a phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the FBI was already aware of possible corruption involving Mykola Zlochevsky, the owner of Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings. Hunter Biden was on the board of the company, and Trump rightly smelled a rat.
As the then-vice president, Joe Biden was instrumental in getting Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin fired as he was investigating Burisma. Trump was right to lean on Zelensky to look into the firing, but the FBI backed off its investigation and Trump was impeached over the phone call.
Moreover, an informant said that another investigation launched in 2016 had already uncovered that "it cost 5 [million] to pay one Biden, and 5 [million] to another Biden." Information about this bribe was only recently released after lawmakers viewed it in a redacted FD-1023 form.
Even with all of this evidence, the FBI was ordered to back off an investigation. Grassley said that "the basis for trying to shut down the has been described to my office as highly suspect and is contradicted by other documents my office has been told exist within the Foreign Influence Task Force, FBI Seattle Field Office, FBI Baltimore Field Office, and FBI HQ holdings.
It's obvious from these whistleblowers that there was political pressure to leave the Bidens alone even in the face of piles of evidence of their corruption. It's disturbing to see the way the Bidens were given cover, and yet Trump is still being investigated.
