China deems Biden ‘powerless’ after climate apology in Glasgow

In yet another humiliation for the United States on the world stage, China used the occasion of President Joe Biden’s recent, groveling remarks at the U.N.’s COP26 climate summit to characterize the commander in chief as “powerless,” according to Fox News.

China’s take on the situation came after Biden addressed attendees in Glasgow, imploring members of the global community to come together in “action and solidarity” on climate change, while also expressing remorse over his country’s actions when former President Donald Trump was at the helm.

Attempting to explain, Biden said, “I guess I shouldn’t apologize, but I do apologize for the fact that the United States under the last administration pulled out of the Paris agreement. That kind of put us behind the eight ball a bit.”

The president continued, according to CBS News, by emphasizing the damage he believes climate change is already wreaking via natural disasters and warning, “Worse is yet to come if we fail to seize this moment.”

In response, the Global Times, a Chinese government-backed outlet, issued a piece mocking Biden’s words of apology and underscoring the fraught political environment in America over this issue and many others, something an international relations professor from Beijing said was proof positive of “the declining U.S.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping was not even in attendance at the Glasgow summit, but rather appeared virtually. This was true, despite China’s status as the most significant carbon dioxide emitter in the entire world, as Fox News noted.

The Asian national has vowed to start cutting its output within the next decade and to achieve carbon-neutral status in 40 years, and while many western nations have pressured Beijing to set even more ambitious targets, Xi has hinted that no such action will be taken unless key concessions are secured.

Not surprisingly, it did not take long for Trump himself weigh in on Biden’s Glasgow declarations, and he opined that those in attendance and those observing from abroad were undoubtedly unimpressed.

“We have never been thought of so poorly as we are right now, including the fact that the leaders of foreign countries, all of whom are at the top of their game, are laughing at Biden as he makes the rounds in Europe. So low and so bad for America. There has never been a time like it,” Trump concluded.
