From the very start of this Supreme Court nomination process, it’s been clear that only one thing could stop Trump’s pick – RINO’s (Republicans In Name Only). You know the names in the Senate – Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins, along with a couple of other questionables, like Lamar Alexander.
These so-called moderates have long been seen by Democrats as a possible partner in blocking a Trump pick.
That’s why an announcement from the “Club for Growth” is such a bombshell victory for Trump and his nominee, Judge Amy Coney Barrett. According to the Washington Examiner:
The conservative Club for Growth is running ads urging voters to pressure Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Utah Sen. Mitt Romney to support the confirmation of federal judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
The group launched television and digital advertising in Alaska and Utah on Tuesday. The spots promote Barrett’s qualifications and encourage voters in Alaska and Utah to call the offices of Murkowski and Romney and insist that Barrett be confirmed.
The Club has a long history of successful “RINO-hunting” by primarying GOP politicians who don’t stand up for their principles. And Romney and Murkowski aren’t dumb.
They know that voting against Barrett could be a death knell for their careers, especially if the GOP rank and file remember. And the Club for Growth is making sure that there is plenty of attention focused on Romney’s and Murkowski’s decision.
