Capitol Police build a wall ahead of State of the Union address to prepare for trucker rally

A fence is being constructed around the Capitol building with President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address in mind as Washington braces for possible “Freedom Convoy” protesters.

According to The Washington Examiner, U.S. Capitol Police and the Secret Service have been “working together” work on security measures after receiving reports about a potential protest that could take place on March 1.

According to a statement from the Capitol Police, the fence will be installed as part of “increased security measures” as they “plan for the upcoming State of the Union,” Capitol Police said in a statement. “The temporary inner-perimeter fence is part of those ongoing discussions and remains an options, however at this time no decision has been made.”

Police said on Friday that “law enforcement agencies across the National Capitol Region” have been made aware that a trucker convoy with a similar structure to the one in Ottawa, Canada, could be coalescing and planning to cross into Washington D.C. on March 1.

Law enforcement agencies across the National Capital Region are aware of plans for a series of truck convoys arriving in Washington, DC around the time of the State of the Union. As with any demonstration, the USCP will facilitate lawful First Amendment activity.

“The USCP is closely coordinating with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including DC’s Metropolitan Police Department, the United States Park Police, the United States Secret Service and other allied agencies to include the DC National Guard.” – The United States Capitol Police

Truckers in the United States have been making plans to attempt a similar demonstration to protest COVID-19 vaccine mandates, possibly with the help of some of the same truckers from the north, and potentially calling it “The People’s Convoy.”
