If you spent even as little as a few minutes watching any of the left-leaning mainstream media cable news outlets in the lead-up to the 2020 election, chances are solid that you probably heard a host or two speak of the impending “blue wave” that would sweep across the U.S. House of Representatives.
As we’ve witnessed in the weeks since the election, the blue wave never came to fruition, and instead, a red wave formed in its place. According to Fox News, proof of that red wave was once again evidenced in California, where former GOP Rep. David Valadao (R-CA) defeated incumbent Democrat Rep. T.J. Cox (D-CA).
Valado, who formerly held a seat in the liberal-heavy state, won in 2012 by reportedly focusing on the state’s agricultural issues, where deep Republican support could be found and energized.
He was ultimately defeated in 2018 when Democrats actually did manage to form somewhat of a blue wave — a wave that captured an impressive seven Republican-held seats at the time.
For the 2020 election cycle, Valado, who comes from a dairy farming family, hammered his opponent on his alignment with the radical progressive wing of the House, while running on a campaign promise to help bring meaningful COVID-19 relief to his state and Americans across the country.
Valado’s victory follows in the wake of several other shocking upsets pulled off by Republican candidates in California for the 2020 election, including Reps.-elect Young Kim and Michelle Steel, who both defeated their Democrat opponents, which few expected.
According to Fox News, House Republicans made a huge statement in the 2020 election, cutting the Democrats’ majority lead in the House by roughly half. That number set a new and undesirable record for holding the slimmest House majority in roughly two decades.
With a total of at least 12 House seats flipped from blue to red, House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) touted the victory as solid proof that Americans are bent on rejecting the Democrats’ hard pull to the radical left, even setting the Democratic party up for a massive failure in the 2022 midterms.
“The American people have now rejected Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat socialist policy,” McCarthy said.
