California Democrat hoping to replace Sen. Feinstein allegedly abused ex-husband

When recent revelations of Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) retirement surfaced this week, a growing number of California Democrats rushed to the head of the line as possible contenders to replace her.

According to Breitbart, one of those potential replacements is Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA). But her dirty laundry is already airing, and her political future is looking quite dim.

Reportedly, recent divorce filings reveal that she allegedly abused her ex-husband, Matthew Hoffman

Fox News noted:

The allegations against Porter include claims that she dumped hot potatoes on her then-husband's head and smashed a glass that led to him being cut by flying shards. Porter has separately faced accusations of running a toxic, emotionally abusive workplace by former staffers.

Not surprisingly, Porter's office essentially denied the allegations, going as far as claiming that Hoffman recanted his allegations.

However, Hoffman went on record this week to clarify that he recanted exactly nothing about the incident.

"I do not recant the allegations," he said, adding that he did not "recall stating I regretted making the allegations but, again, it's been a long time."

Hoffman had been arrested on battery charges after a confrontation, and both sides had filed Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO) against each other. Hoffman claims Porter "made false allegations" against him at the time.

Fox added:

Documents obtained by Fox News Digital state that Hoffman regretted making the allegations against Porter in a court-ordered child custody evaluation, but it doesn't specify whether his regret was due to a lack of veracity or another reason.

"Porter's account was supported by police accounts, a doctor's recommendation after a child custody evaluation, her sole request for a move-out order and property control, and ultimately a judge's decision granting her majority physical custody," said Porter’s spokesperson, Lindsay Reilly.

However it went down, it appears Porter has a tendency to act nasty, at least in the workplace, as several of her former staffers claimed that she ran an emotionally abusive, toxic office.

Who knows what really happened in the several confrontations in which they both claim to be victims, but the fact that it's even out there means Porter's chances, especially against much bigger California Democratic names, are slim, at best.

Welcome to another day in California politics. Nasty stuff.
